Our Juneau Dog Sledding Tour on Alaska’s Herbert Glacier will be the highlight of your Juneau visit. Coastal Helicopters and Blue Kennels have partnered to offer this “once in a lifetime” adventure. Blue Kennels has specialized in giving dogsled tours since 1997. In 2009, Sebastian Schnuelle of Blue Kennels won the challenging 1,000 Mile Yukon Quest and finished 2nd in the Iditarod. In both races Sebastian has been awarded the Veterinarians Choice award for best dog care, Yukon Quest 2007 and Iditarod 2010.

This unique tour starts at the Coastal Helicopters’ heliport. Cruise ship passengers will be picked up at the dock and transported to the heliport. Your extraordinary experience begins with a flight over the Juneau Icefield to the dog camp. The glaciers seem within arm’s reach! Glacier-carved mountains unfold in front of your eyes. At the dog camp, 60 Alaskan huskies welcome you to their outdoor kennel on the glacier.  The huskies voice their enthusiasm and the excitement is tingling!  Stories are the backbone of the north and you will hear unique and personal accounts of the Iditarod and back country journeys in the northern winterland.  Mushers will answer your questions and provide ample photo opportunities. To top it off, you can wear original Iditarod Trail gear with finishing bibs. tour the kennel, and then head off on the dogsled ride.

YOU'RE OFF!Imagine yourself standing on the runners of a dog sled with a team of huskies loping across the ancient snowfields nestled among the peaks of the vast Juneau Icefield. The lure of the trail and the thrill of driving a dog team creates this"ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE!" The actual tour is approximately 1.5 hours from lifting off at the heliport to return.

TRANSPORTATION:

Coastal Helicopters will provide transportation to and from the downtown cruise ship docking area at no additional cost. Please add an additional 45-60 minutes in each direction.

PRICE:

$524.00* per seat (includes 5% CBJ tax ) Persons weighing 280 pounds (clothed weight) or more must pay an additional $100.00 for safety reasons. These prices apply to the 2017 tour season only.

The first day of scheduled Tour Operations is Monday May 8th 2017.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Dress warmly and in layers. Often the temperature on the glacier is colder than you are used to. You will be outfitted with a glacier over-boot prior to embarking on your trip. Don't forget your sunglasses! Hats and gloves are available when you arrive at your destination should you forget to bring yours. Remember to bring your camera and plenty of film. These tours are for EVERYONE. No minimum fitness level is required.

*Restrictions: Passenger names and weights are required by the FAA for weight and balance calculations and flight manifesting. To ensure your safety and comfort, persons weighing 280 pounds (clothed weight) or more must pay an additional $100.00 for safety reasons.

We have a no bag policy in all our aircraft, if you have medical needs that require a carry on, please contact us. All bags brought to base will be stored in the tour office until you return from your flight.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made at least 8 days s prior to a scheduled tour will be refunded in full. Cancellations made 5 to 7 days prior to a scheduled tour will be charged 50%. Cancellations within 4 days to the same day of tour ( no shows ), will not be refunded. If Coastal Helicopters cancels a flight due to weather, cruise ship, or flight delay, and we are unable to reschedule, the passenger will be refunded. Decisions to fly are at the discretion of Coastal Helicopters, Inc.

Safety: Customer safety is our primary concern at Coastal Helicopters, Inc. Whether you are joining us for your first helicopter experience or as a seasoned veteran heading back to work in a remote region Coastal Helicopters calls home, our staff is here to make sure you are comfortable from take off to landing. Throughout the year we subject our aircraft, pilots, maintenance and support staff not only to training and inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), but also to independent and internal audits, inspections by the Office of Aircraft Services (OAS) /U.S. Forest Service and are very committed to the Alaska Air Carriers Association's Medallion Program (providing a level of safety for all passengers above and beyond that required by the FAA).
